Prof YANG obtained his PhD from University of Toronto and postdoctoral training in the Scripps Research Institute in USA. He is currently the Head of Department of Biomedical Sciences and Chair Professor of Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences. The research interest of Yang’s group focuses on the study of molecular processes in stem cells and cancer stem cells interacting with microenvironments, and the development of biochip technology and nanomedicine for research and clinical applications.
Prof YANG has published over 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers and 40 patents/patent applications. He has delivered more than 80 invited lectures in international conferences, and trained 24 Ph.D./M.Phil. students and numerous postdoctoral fellows in his laboratory. He holds honorary professorships in University of Central Lancashire, Zhejiang University, and the Third Military Medical University. Professor Yang serves in the Grant Review Boards of Hong Kong Government Health and Medical Research Fund and Innovation and Technology Fund. He has been awarded the Chunhui Scholar Award by the Ministry of Education in China in 2003, the K. C. Wong Foundation Award in 2004, the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Award in 2006, and the Hong Kong Technological Achievement Grand Award in 2007. He is a co-founder of Multigene Diagnostics Ltd., a City University spin-off focusing on development of molecular diagnostics for early detection of diseases.
